Terms of Service

BuiltOnRails is run by Intellecta, a software studio in Sydney, Australia. By using the site you agree to what follows. It is written to be read rather than to be impressive.

What the service is

BuiltOnRails records the technology stacks of production Ruby on Rails applications and makes that data available on the web, through a public API, and through an MCP server that coding agents can query. Most of the data is public by design.

Your account

Accounts are passwordless. You sign in with a link sent to your email address, or by connecting a GitHub or X account. Keep access to your email secure, because anyone with it can sign in as you. Tell us if you think someone else has got in.

You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live. One person, one account. Do not create accounts for other people or impersonate anyone.

What you submit

When you list an application you keep every right you already had in it. You give us permission to display what you submit on the site, in the API, over the MCP server, and in emails and social posts about the site.

Only submit things you are entitled to submit. Do not list an application as yours if it is not. Do not submit anything unlawful, misleading, or built to make the data worse.

We may edit, decline or remove a listing, usually to correct inaccurate stack data. If we remove something of yours and you want to know why, ask.

Using the data

The public data is there to be used, including by automated clients and AI agents. That is the point of the MCP server. Be reasonable about volume; we rate limit, and we may block a client that degrades the service for everyone else.

Do not scrape personal information out of member profiles to build a marketing list. Do not present the data as your own dataset.

Accuracy

Stack data is derived from dependency files and from what people tell us. It is often incomplete and sometimes wrong. Where a technology appears in only a handful of applications, the numbers are too thin to draw conclusions from, and the tools return the counts so you can judge for yourself.

Do not treat anything here as professional advice. Decisions you make from this data are yours.

Sponsorship

Sponsored placements are paid and marked as such. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see your card details. Sponsorship does not buy a listing, a ranking, or influence over the data.

Availability

The service is provided as it is, without warranty. It is a small operation and it can go down. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from using it or from being unable to.

Ending it

You can delete your account whenever you like from settings, or by asking us. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms. Public listings you contributed may remain, with your personal details removed.

Changes

If these terms change materially we will say so on the site and, if it affects you directly, by email. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
